Beaumont-Hamel 110th
anniversary in 2026
In Beaumont-Hamel, France, a great bronze caribou overlooks a deadly battleground where the Royal Newfoundland Regiment launched their offensive on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, July 1, 1916.
110 years later, join the local community, delegations from Veteran’s Affairs Canada and hundreds of fellow Newfoundlanders to reflect on and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice at the official commemorative ceremony.
On tour, follow the ‘Trail of the Caribou’ in Belgium and France to discover six bronze Caribou battlefield memorials that represent some of the most important moments in Newfoundland's First World War experience.
