Witness the enduring bond between Canadians and the Dutch at the Wageningen Liberation Day Festival, which commemorates our two nations' shared struggle against the Nazi occupation of The Netherlands. At Juno Beach, Vimy Ridge, and Beaumont-Hamel, you will ponder the bravery of those who fought, the sacrifice of those who perished, and the unspeakable brutality of war. This tour is a tribute not only to those who served, but to the peace and liberty they fought to protect–and the heavy cost paid to preserve them. At Beaumont-Hamel, France, a great bronze caribou overlooks a deadly battleground where the Royal Newfoundland Regiment launched their offensive on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, July 1, 1916. At the base of the memorial, three bronze tablets carry the names of brave Newfoundlanders who gave their lives in the First World War. The spectacular memorials and cemeteries, including Menin Gate and Tyne Cot, are symbols of the sacrifices of our ancestors and the respect Europeans have for Canada. Participate in the 110th anniversary commemorative ceremonies at Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland memorial. Also, enjoy exploring Brussels and Paris.
