Step 1

Pick a tour

Start from what your teen is into. Meeting new friends? Exploring new cultures? Maybe that looks like ordering lunch in a new language, or experiencing big moments in history, exactly where they happened? Summer Adventures are built to let them access what they want to learn, wherever it is in the world.

Step 2

Hit ‘Enrol’

Ready to secure a spot for your teen? Go to the tour of your choice and hit the Enrol button. From there, it’s like booking any trip, only this one is an all-inclusive package for your teen’s all-time favourite summer.

If you prefer to tackle the process together, our Summer Adventures team can get you squared away.

Step 3

Get ready

This is it. Take one last look at the flights, hotel info, safety information, and the packing list—now, the anticipation begins. We can't wait for your teen to meet their travel buddies, and leap into the unknown together.

Step 4

Go

They’re as ready as they’ll ever be. Now comes the hardest part for you—watching them go. It’s never easy, which is why we provide all of our travellers with 5GB of free roaming data so they can check in from the road. In addition to the teacher leading the tour, and the full-time Tour Director, our On Tour Support Team is also available to both you and your child 24/7, should anything urgent arise.

EF Summer Adventures tours are open to teens from across Canada between the ages of 14-18. Travellers must fall within this age range while on tour.

Yes—enrolment closes 90 days prior to the tour departure date (listed on the tour page). Please note that there are limited spots available for each tour, so registering early is highly recommended. Once enrolled, you will receive communications from the Summer Adventures team outlining the next steps to ensure your teen is ready for the trip of a lifetime. Pre-departure meetings for travellers and families take place around 30 days prior to embarking on tour. More information is shared during this meeting, and it is an opportunity for your teen to connect with/meet other travellers and their Summer Adventure’s Group Leader.

A Passport: A passport is required for all EF Summer Adventures. If you do not have one already, we recommend applying for a passport as soon as you enrol on a tour, as it can take up to eight weeks to process. Canadian citizens travelling abroad must bring a passport that is valid for at least six months after the tour’s return and has at least three blank pages.

Visas: Depending on where you’re travelling or your citizenship, you may need a visa for your tour. Because visa applications must be personally completed by the applicant, all travellers must obtain their own visas, both for countries they are visiting and those they are passing through. If you require a visa, we recommend using Visa Central, which gives a discount to EF travellers for visa processing.

Travel: On-Tour Info

Travellers will be hitting the ground running upon arrival, so try to get as much sleep as possible! Wake-up calls can be as early as 6am local time. You will be walking a lot while on tour, so be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes.

Breakfast is at the hotel, and typically includes a continental breakfast. Lunch is a chance to make culinary discoveries—your Tour Director and Group Leader will help guide travelers and make recommendations based on your preferences. Dinners will be a mix of familiar dishes and local specialties from a set menu, either at a local restaurant or at your hotel.

You should expect to spend about CAD $30-$60 per day in additional spending money. This will cover things like any meals that are not included (usually lunches), souvenirs, snacks, and free-time excursions.

EF chooses reputable partner hotels that are safe and youth-friendly. Hotels are generally located in lively neighborhoods with good access to the city centre, and give travellers a taste of daily life in the selected cities and towns. In some cases to optimize tour flow, hotels may be located further away (between 30-60 minutes) from the urban core, and travellers take a pre-arranged, private bus ride to their tour stops for that day.

All EF Summer Adventures will depart from Toronto's Pearson international Airport (YYZ). For travellers arriving by air from other provinces or outside Toronto, we ask that you please arrive the day ahead of your scheduled departure from YYZ.

Accommodation and supervision are provided at an extra cost for single travellers.

Throughout the trip, your child will have a dedicated and experienced Group Leader, team of chaperones, a Tour Director, and support from regional EF offices. Parents can contact EF’s 24/7 helpline at any time for updates, help, or assistance.

Tour Directors are experienced guides who are local to the destination, and work alongside our Group Leaders! They guide the group throughout the trip, manage logistics, and ensure that all participants are enjoying the experience.

Travellers typically stay in shared rooms with other travellers of the same gender. The standard for EF Summer Adventure tours is two travellers per room. We take requests for roommates into consideration, and we do our best to accommodate them.

At EF, we are committed to ensuring that all travellers feel comfortable and included. We understand that individual gender needs and concerns are important, and we are happy to accommodate alternative rooming arrangements to provide a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

Please feel free to reach out to discuss any specific requirements, and we will work with you to make the necessary arrangements.
